Brie, the creamy, indulgent cheese that melts in your mouth. With its soft, velvety texture and rich, buttery flavor, it's no wonder brie is a favorite among cheese lovers. Whether you enjoy it on its own or paired with biscuits, gourmet fruits, or a glass of wine, brie is the perfect addition to any charcuterie board or cheese platter. Its versatility makes it a go-to choice for both casual gatherings and elegant occasions. So go ahead, treat yourself to a slice of brie and elevate your culinary experience. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
On a budget? Your basic brie is an affordable treat for most budgets. You can find several varieties from Double Cream, Triple Cream, Camembert to many fancy gourmet preparations and varieties. The cost ranges from from $3-6 for your supermarket brie to much higher if you purchase from a cheesery or gourmet vendor. The good news, is that can make your own fancy version right at home, and for mere pennies.
Key Ingredients Used

The Different Types Of Brie Cheese
The main difference between varieties is related to fat content and the cheese's texture. Double-cream brie is the most common, and is usually made with 60 to 75% milkfat. Triple-cream combines cream to the cheese for a more soft, richer texture. Triple-cream cheese contains more than 75% butterfat and is by far the creamiest. The extra cream brie cheeses have a delicious, buttery flavour than compared to regular brie cheese.
Gourmet Variations
As good as brie is on its own, you can flavour the cheese any number of ways to add little spice, sweetness or a herbal twist to delight your palette. These are some of my favourite ways to serve Camembert or brie and provide a little hit of wholefood nutrients as well as great taste:
add sweetness: a drizzle or side of sweet tasting fig or raspberry jam, a dollop of Cherry preserves, or apricot chutney all make for a delicious treat.
add herbs: many people love a touch of sweetness, but if you prefer savoury, try a drizzle of olive oil with herbs like basil, chives, rosemary, or thyme. Sprinkle them over the cheese, add them into a spread, or even use them in a marinade before serving.
add honey glaze: drizzling honey over brie enhances its creamy flavour with a touch of sweetness.
add nuts: Nuts like walnuts, pecans, and almonds add a nice crunch and earthy flavour to brie. They also provide a contrasting texture.
shhh... add wine: of course, brie pairs well with a variety of wines, including white wines like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Champagne. The acidity of the wine cuts through the richness of the cheese.
Now if you are salivating at the thought of all the delicious ways to enjoy and serve this soft cheese, be sure that you bookmark this post and then run, don't walk, to the shops to get what you need to my favourite way to prepare gourmet brie.

Gourmet Cherry Chili Baked Brie Recipe

This recipe is one of my absolute favourite ways to share a gourmet cheese dish for entertaining, and it is always a huge hit. The cherries add a little something different with a subtle sweet flavour that marries so well with the spice of the chili. Let's get baking!
Gourmet Cherry Chili Baked Brie |

Method |
FOR THE SAUCE: In a sauce pan, add the cherries, sweetener, chili, sweetener, garlic and ginger. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Let simmer, stirring constantly until the cherries begin to breakdown. Add more water (just enough to cover) as needed to aid this process. |
When the cherry mixture has formed a jam-like texture, scoop a spoonful or two into a side dish and whisk to combine with the corn starch. Add the mixture back to the pan and simmer until the starch mix begins to thicken. Pull off the heat to let cool while you prepare the cheese |
Option 1 |
In a small baking dish, add the Camembert cheese wheel and bake at 180c for 8-10 minutes. You can tell the insides have melted by lightly pressing the top. If it feels firm, it may need a few minutes longer. If it feels soft inside, the cheese is ready. To serve, present right in the dish with generous drizzle the cherry chili sauce over top. Best served with a dry, crisp bread or gourmet biscuits. |
Option 2 |
In a small baking dish, add the Camembert cheese wheel to the centre. Pour a good portion of the cherry chili sauce over top, and bake at 180c for 8-10 minutes. Keep an eye on the top as some ovens burn hotter than others. |
Batch Cook & Meal Prep
Yes, you can easily meal prep the chili sauce and store it in a sealed jar if kept in the fridge. Use a proper jam or preserves jar that is sterile and has an air-tight lid for freshness. Will keep for up to 4 weeks and can be used as a dipping sauce for spring rolls and hors d'oeuvres, or as a sweet and spicy drizzle wherever you want a little sweet and spice.
